Chilean Carmenere is a delightful yet somewhat under-the-radar grape varietal known for producing stunning, medium-bodied wines that are bursting with fruit-forward flavors. Originally hailing from Bordeaux in southwest France, Carmenere has found a new and thriving home in central Chile, where it’s become one of the country’s signature varietals. While Carmenere is grown globally, many believe Chile produces the finest examples. It’s still cultivated in small amounts in France, though it remains much less common there.

Interestingly, Carmenere shares many characteristics with Merlot, so much so that Chilean winemakers once mistakenly labeled Carmenere as Merlot. Today, however, Carmenere stands proudly on its own, celebrated for its distinct and flavorful profile.
