Description
Chilean Carmenere is a delightful yet somewhat under-the-radar grape varietal known for producing stunning, medium-bodied wines that are bursting with fruit-forward flavors. In each sip, you’ll encounter rich aromas and tastes of berries, red fruits, spices, a touch of smokiness, and earthy undertones. With its gentle tannins and striking deep crimson color, Carmenere offers a unique experience that’s both smooth and memorable.
For wine and liquor collectors, note that Carmenere is best enjoyed within the first two years of bottling to savor its vibrant, fresh flavors at their peak.
Originally hailing from Bordeaux in southwest France, Carmenere has found a new and thriving home in central Chile, where it’s become one of the country’s signature varietals. While Carmenere is grown globally, many believe Chile produces the finest examples. It’s still cultivated in small amounts in France, though it remains much less common there.
Interestingly, Carmenere shares many characteristics with Merlot, so much so that Chilean winemakers once mistakenly labeled Carmenere as Merlot. Today, however, Carmenere stands proudly on its own, celebrated for its distinct and flavorful profile.
